Our Practitioners

I work with individuals, couples, and families assisting them to better communicate feelings which can lead to reducing stress and anger in the home.

Much of my practice consists of assisting Couples to becoming more emotionally connected and intimately engaged in their relationship. For couple’s who have complex schedules, I offer private intensive weekend couple’s therapy workshops. All day-Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday times available by appointment. Additionally , I offer Gottman ASL weekend workshops for couples throughout the year.

I work in helping to identify stressors which heighten anxiety and teach techniques to reduce stress and anxiety.

Another passion is to match others with their passion in life. I look at one’s whole life including self, family, leisure, income responsibilities, gifts and interests. I see career as an integral part of one’s whole life.

About My Practice

I have been counseling others for over fifteen years and have helped hundreds of clients in finding and fulfilling their inner passions. In the process of clients discovering their passions many have rediscovered their own natural gifts and abilities. Many clients have found that by recognizing their transferable skill sets, transitioning into a new career is much more accessible than they once thought.

I can identify with my clients

As one who has gone through this career transitioning process myself, I understand some of the challenges clients face. I am a former public school educator. I have served as a youth director and volunteer coordinator for non-profit organizations where I have recruited and trained over 100 volunteers to serve locally and aboard. I have worked with clients in fields of higher education, construction management, health care, engineering, advertising, and small business development and managment. I returned to graduate school to complete my masters degree in the clinical counseling field.  In 2007 I opened my private practice, Centerline Counseling in Severna Park, Maryland and in 2010 I opened a second counseling office location in Ruxton Towers, Kathleen M. Horrigan and Associates in Towson, Maryland .

I have ALWAYS loved food. When I was a child, I had an amazing metabolism and could eat as much as I wanted, without gaining a pound! However, I often suffered from headaches, stomach aches, insomnia, and muscle aches. I thought nothing of it; I assumed this was normal, since so many people suffer from these as well. When I turned 30, my metabolism started slowing down and I began to gain weight. I slowly started to change my diet, one step at a time. Years later, I realized I not only lost the excess weight, but I felt SO much better! The aches and pains have gone away. The healing power of food is quite amazing. Feeling inspired, I decided to study for a year at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and earned my certificate in integrative health and nutrition coaching. I now work with individuals and small groups to show them how to lose weight and feel better, just like I did. I’ll be with you every step of the way!

My fifteen years of journeying with others through their personal deserts has been enriching. To witness the resilience and natural healing ability of the body, mind, and spirit when one finds the courage and strength to transform fear, pain, and grief is inspiring. My experience has taught me that unresolved grief has much to do with the dis-ease and challenges that present in counseling.  My years specializing in the field of grief and loss and my years working in general practice confirm that when stress becomes overwhelming and life becomes challenging, loss of some form is often discovered. A grief processed well, whether in the form of a major loss or a change in one’s life, leaves us with a deeper capacity to know ourselves, to love, to find peace and purpose, and to experience grace.

My most recent training in Brainspotting, developed out of the integrative EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) approach by David Grand, PhD., has been transforming to my practice. This brain-based therapy goes beyond the mind to gain direct access to the brain using the visual field to unlock and to heal. This sophisticated scientific approach has taken the best of brain-based therapies and talk therapies to allow the client to access their brain’s self-scanning and self-healing properties. I have found it to be an exciting, encouraging, and effective physiological process with psychological benefits to my clients.

My Holistic and Integrative approach offer experiential and traditional techniques to transform:

  • Unresolved grief
  • Transitions
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Difficult Relationships
  • Women’s issues
  • Adolescent and teen issues
  • Self- esteem
  • Codependence
  • Trauma
  • Faith issues
  • Life out of balance
  • Coping with chronic illness

I hold a Master’s Degree from Loyola University in Pastoral Counseling.  Additionally, I am a Nationally Certified Professional Counselor and am certified in Ericksonian Clinical Hypnosis. I have special training in experiential therapies that utilize classical music (The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music), art therapy using the ancient sanskrit art of mandala, which translated means wholeness, and dream work.

I offer compassionate counseling to help each client achieve balance in their life. I have a passion for helping others connect with their truth, their courage, and their confidence in order to live in conscious awareness of themselves, others, and their relationships.

In my private practice I apply a compassionate spirit and truly love working with people from all walks of life to discover the path that works best for them. I specialize in children’s issues and women’s needs and have years of experience and training treating addiction (12 step, SMART, Celebrate Recovery) trauma (TF-CBT, CBT+), grief (the only way is through), relationship (SYMBIS, Gottman) and a variety of specific diagnoses.
